Instructions for measurement and assembly of RKS

        Wednesday, 01 October 2008 10:41

1 - Cleat of the tape
2 - Foam or mortar
3 - Case of the tape roll
4 - Lintel
5 - Case

A.      Preparation of the window opening, measurement and assembly of RKS shutters Before installation of RKS roller shutters, the window opening should be prepared in a shape of irregular letter "T". Cross, upper part of the opening (place for the case) must be wider than the window frame (So) by about 10 cm on the side of the drive and 8 cm on the other side (if at the moment of construction it is not possible to specify on which side the drive will be mounted, this part of the opening should be extended by 10 cm on both sides). Recommended height of the case opening - case height plus 2 cm. Therefore, length of the case itself is (So + 16 cm) if we know the side on which the drive will be mounted, or (So + 18 cm) if we don't know the side of the drive. The case is fixed with mortar or sealing foam, facing it with the interior wall and carefully levelling. If the side on which the drive will be mounted is known and the cleat of the tape is installed in the case, the plastic case of the concealed tape roll should be installed directly under the cleat (the case of the tape roll and the cleat, as well as the wheel of the roller rube later, must be in one line, so that the cord goes vertically along the wall). The case of the tape roll is usually mounted 110 cm over the planned floor level. Note: The case is not a load-bearing element; therefore, you must remember about appropriately longer lintel.

B.      Guide There is a general principle, that we apply PVC guides for PVC windows and aluminium guides for wooden windows. The length of a PVC guide (without the slider) is equal to the height of the window. Length of an aluminium guide = height of the window measured from the external opening for a windowsill + 4 cm. In its top part protruding from the window frame, the aluminium guide should be slit and formed into a funnel replacing the slider.

Assembly instructions:
1. Guides should be installed on the windows before the windows are mounted.
2. Before assembling aluminium guides on wooden windows, make sure that the roller shutter profile will pass the eaves; install offset laths, if necessary.
3.  The windows with guides should be mounted in such a way, that sliders of PVC guides or aluminium guides are rested on external plaster laths inside the case.
4.   The guides should be positioned in such a way, that the width of internal window frame after plastering enables inserting the roller shutter profile into the side channels of the guides.

 C.      Inspection hatch & traverse

From the inside, the inspection hatch is screwed to the internal plaster lath of the case. In the case of fixing the hatch to the BECK&HEUN case, remember about prior mounting of an assembly profile case to the internal lath.

Assembly of the inspection hatch to the window frame is possible with a universal traverse
(see: pricelist for RKS roller shutters) or special assembly profiles (offered by every manufacturer of window profiles).
On the edges of the properly cut inspection hatch, (right and left) adapters are mounted, and later partially concealed. The adapter enables easy opening of the inspection hatch. Being partially concealed, adapters are almost invisible and form an aesthetic whole with the hatch.

  1.
    • 1 - Inspection hatch
    • 2 - Adapter
  2. Traverse is not used with aluminium guides with no offset. For wooden windows, it is recommended to make a cutter, of the section of a square (1 cm x 1 cm) in the top window frame, 1 cm from its top edge, which will perform the function of an inspection hatch assembly profile. If making a cutter is not possible, aluminium profile is mounted on the top window frame.
Note: Depending on the type of assembly profile, mount the window:
    1.       in such a way that the top edge of the window and the bottom of internal lath of the RKS shutter are in the same plane (assembly profile is shaped in such a way that the hatch is located on the window frame and the profile presses it from the top)
    2.       in such a way that the window frame with the guide protrudes into the RKS shutter by 1 cm (assembly profile is pressed from the top into the window frame, but the channel retaining the hatch is lowered by 1 cm in relation to the top window edge)
    3.       in such a way that the window frame with the guide protrudes into the RKS shutter by 2 cm (applies to the cutter in the wooden window frame).

    D.      Shutter profile

If we want to specify total width of the profile (already locked) and we know only width of the window, then depending on the type of used guides, take "X" cm from the window width, assuming that the guides will be installed exactly along the window edge (i.e. as in assembly of guides of flush-mounted shutters). If you want to specify total height of the shutter profile to the height of the window, add 15 cm.

             E.       Hardware of the case and drive.

Method of selecting the appropriate length of the roller tube in the RKS roller shutter depends on type of the drive, manufacturer of the cases and their length. Length of the roller tube is calculated as follows:
